Let's start first with the real deal dictionary definition. Oxford Languages (https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/self-care) defined it so wonderfully...
"the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress." and goes on to say... "expressing oneself is an essential form of self-care"
Self care are things that you do, say or think intentionally to care and maintain your inner being or mental health. I often reference it as the gasoline in your tank. The car eventually will run out of fuel, if you do not intentionally monitor your tank levels and put in gas when you need it. This really mirrors our mental health. If we just keep going and going and forget to check our fuel gauge, we may run out and feel stuck and emotionally drained.
So what are some things you can do for self care in order to re-fuel? Great question! Below is a list with a variety of self care ideas. Feel free to print out this handout on self care and check off the ones you do and the ones you want to further explore. I have attached a link below.
Here is the free pdf for you to print out and use. Feel free to share it with those you love! It's important for everyone to practice #selfcare!
While looking through the list (which is not a complete and fully exhaustive list as selfcare is an individualized thing) did you find new methods for self care? Are there any that you plan to try? Comment below. :)
